How does ND MealScan estimate calories and macros?

ND MealScan uses AI-powered image recognition to identify the foods and portion sizes visible in your meal photo. It then matches these against nutrition databases to estimate calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat. You can also describe your meal in words if a photo isn't practical, and the widget will base its estimate on that description.

How accurate are the estimates?

The estimates are approximations intended to build awareness of your eating patterns, not laboratory measurements. Accuracy depends on photo quality, lighting, portion size and how much of each ingredient is visible — hidden ingredients like oil, sugar or masalas can change the true values. Treat the numbers as a helpful guide rather than an exact count.

What happens to the photos I upload?

Your meal photos are processed by the ND MealScan service solely to produce your nutrition estimate. They are not shared publicly, and your Nettur Diacare doctor sees your meal photos that you explicitly share with them as part of your care, alongside the meal analyses generated by the tool for you — for example, when you opt into a PLANS Blueprint programme. Please avoid photographing anything unrelated to your meal.

Can I use these estimates for medical decisions?

No. ND MealScan estimates should not replace personal medical or nutrition advice. If you have diabetes or any other metabolic condition, discuss your diet with one of our doctors — you can book a consultation for individualized guidance.
